How can we save money by measuring air temperature?

The easily deployable and cost-effective GSM devices are now assisting many in controlling their sharply increased energy costs, to which not only wired but also wireless (BLE) temperature and humidity sensors can be connected.

Starting October 1, 2022, Hungarian government introduced regulations mandating indoor temperatures to be maintained at 18 or 20 degrees Celsius, aiming to reduce gas consumption by 25%. Complying with this poses a significant challenge to building operators.

According to statements, numerous institutions lack modern heating systems capable of measuring room temperatures. Additionally, temperature control devices (e.g., thermostats) often fail to send alert signals to operators when room temperatures exceed set thresholds.

With the introduction of such a system, not only can continuous monitoring and administration of temperature be ensured, but it can also prevent additional costs arising from human errors or improper operation.

As a rule of thumb, every 1°C decrease in cooling or increase in heating typically requires 6% more energy consumption. This value is further influenced by the technology of the heating/cooling system and the insulation of the building.

By continuously monitoring fluctuations in room temperatures, we can change our operational habits and associated bad practices. This can result in a minimum of 15% savings in heating costs, which could mean significant savings annually for a public institution.

Continuous temperature monitoring is also vital in other industrial facilities such as cold storage warehouses, greenhouses, wine cellars, server rooms, office buildings, hospitals, hotels, leisure facilities, manufacturing plants, or commercial units, where the introduction of such a system can result in cost reduction. Moreover, temperature monitoring can provide invaluable service in facilities where urgent intervention is required when high or low temperature thresholds are reached, promptly notifying operators remotely.

The temperature monitoring system not only ensures continuous monitoring but also enables immediate intervention. If the temperature is too high or too low, the device notifies the building operator or maintenance personnel through a mobile application and/or a web-based software. Optionally, it can also be operated through a remote monitoring service provider's dispatch center.

Temperature data can be easily retrieved from the web-based software for any desired period, whether it's a day, a week, or several months, thus providing proof of compliance with temperature requirements in case of any future inspections.

The installation of the system requires minimal time and effort on-site since the thermometers communicate wirelessly (BLE 5.0), eliminating the need for expensive cable networks and power supply provision. The sensors have built-in batteries, allowing them to operate for 5-8 years depending on whether they are placed indoors or outdoors, with a message transmission frequency of 10 seconds.

We offer two types of Bluetooth thermometers, differing only in their design. The ThermoBeacon sensor has a built-in thermometer, supporting temperature measurement in environments such as hospital wards, shops, sales areas, or offices. The ThermoBeacon Probe has an externally connected wired thermometer, allowing only the sensor to be installed in the interior of refrigerators and cold rooms, while the battery and the associated Bluetooth modem are placed on the external part of the equipment.

The introduction of such a system not only ensures continuous monitoring and administration of temperature but also prevents additional costs arising from human errors or improper operation. Following its implementation, there will be no more incidents of open windows or prolonged ventilation leading to overheating losses, as the system will alert the operator to such incidents.
